The fine town of Ilford

Today I read an article all about Ilford, in Essex, where I lived until I was 16. Because of the shock I had with my sister Janice, I never thought about my life there until quite recently. When I read the article http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/destinations-national/ilford-in-general/332718/
it brought back a very special memory, which is when my father took me to see the cowboy Roy Rogers and his beautiful horse, Trigger. I think that is where I got my love of horses from.

Because Dad was a withdrawn man who didn't show any interest in Janice and me, I don't have many memories of him. He was a very big man with wide shoulders and lots of thick grey hair, and the day he took me to see Roy Rogers and Trigger is the only memory I really have of him as a father. He was very excited and I had to run to keep up with his long footsteps, and when we got to the Pioneer market he pushed his way through the crowd and lifted me onto his shoulders as if I was a baby - even though I must have been about 12 years old! Although it was interesting to see Roy Rogers, what mattered most to me was that my Dad was talking to me and spending time with me.

One day, when the new building that is being built there by Mr O'Donnell and Mr Chittell, called Pioneer Point, is finished, I plan to visit Ilford to look at it, and it will be a very emotional visit because I will be seeing the place where Janice died, and where I spent some magical time with my father.

  • If you ever do come to Ilford (I doubt you will since Pioneer Point will never actually be built), I hope you bring a bodyguard or two because you are a prime target for a mugging. The gangs in Ilford just love naive little old ladies who are foolish enough to believe that article about the town.

  • Hi Doris,

Just to let you know that Ilford isn't actually in Essex any longer. It's a London Borough now and is classed as East London. I guess that's perhaps partly why it has turned into such a slum, all the Paki's have spilt over from Newham and spoilt Ilford.

Look Ilford up on Wikipedia and it will give you some facts and figures.

If you do come and visit, you certainly won't be seeing any Roy Rogers cowboys in Ilford, but you will definately be seeing quite a few Indians. This place is basically downtown Islamabad although we are now being invaded by hoards of Eastern European thugs who are responsible for the soaring rape, mugging and buglarly crimes which have gone up ten-fold since last May.

My neighbours have now rented their house out to the housing association and I now have a load of Afghans refugees who don't speak English who have 5 kids who don't speak English who are stinking out my house with whatever they are cooking and turning the whole place into a slum.

If I were you Doris, I would stick with the memories and stay where you are. Ilford is a nasty place full of very nasty filthy immigrants who smell even nastier.

    All the best,

  • It made me sad to read what both of you said, and when I come in January to meet Mr Tom O'Donnell to discuss the details of where Janice's shrine will be, then I will indeed see Ilford for myself. I am getting rather worried reading all the bad things people are saying about the town and Mr Tom O'Donnell and Mr Hayden Chittell, so I must come there and put my mind at rest.

    God bless you both.

    Doris

  • Well, Doris - did you ever come to Ilford? You've been very quiet!
